The city on the Iller and near the Austrian border looks back on a history of more than 2,000 years. It experienced its first heyday in the first and second millennium as the Roman garrison town Cambodunum. Today more than 70,000 inhabitants live here and in addition many students of the University of Applied Sciences Kempten enliven the townscape.
In the late 1930s the Parktheater was founded here as an Art Deco cinema. At that time it had the largest cinema hall in Bavaria. It was not until the beginning of the 2000s that the 2nd and 3rd generation of the cinema operators in Kempten moved into the modern Colosseum Center with a total of 7 halls.
